Words that help
- Name what you’ve seen God do in them — “I’ve watched your faith grow since…” Specific beats generic.
- Speak to their future, not only today — “As you step into this, I’m praying that…”
- Add a verse that reminds you of them, and say why it fits.
- Keep it short and heartfelt — one true sentence outshines a paragraph of clichés.
Gently avoid
- A generic “congrats!” with nothing personal — it’s forgettable at a moment that isn’t.
- Pressure dressed up as a blessing — “Don’t mess this up.”
- Making it about you — long stories where they should be the center.
